Founded by Michael Dowdell — a Detroit native, entrepreneur, and lifelong music lover — WGNX began as a dream to create a radio experience that speaks directly to the heart and soul of the culture.

Growing up on the west side of Detroit, Michael was shaped by the sounds of Motown, the grit of hip-hop, and the smoothness of R&B. He saw a gap in the media landscape — a space where Gen X and the generations they influenced could hear their music, their stories, and their city represented without compromise.
